Do Golf Carts Have Radios?

Some golf carts come with factory audio options, but many do not have a traditional radio as standard equipment. Owners commonly add a Bluetooth soundbar, portable speaker, dash-mounted receiver, or complete stereo system depending on the cart and how it is used.

Factory audio is model-dependent

Newer premium golf carts and low-speed vehicles may offer speakers, Bluetooth audio, or integrated infotainment as standard or optional equipment. Older and basic utility carts are more likely to have no audio system at all.

You do not need a traditional radio

For most owners, Bluetooth audio is simpler than installing an AM/FM head unit. A powered soundbar can combine speakers, amplifier, and Bluetooth receiver in one enclosure, while a portable speaker requires almost no permanent wiring.

Compare options in our golf cart soundbar vs speaker-system guide.

Electric carts need the correct accessory voltage

Many aftermarket audio products use 12V DC. A 36V or 48V electric golf cart normally needs a voltage reducer for permanently wired audio equipment. Pulling 12V from one battery in a series pack can create imbalance.

Gas carts usually have a 12V electrical system

Gas golf carts commonly use a 12V starting battery, which can make accessory power simpler, but the circuit still needs proper fusing and enough capacity for the audio load.

Where can speakers be mounted?

Common locations include roof supports, dash panels, overhead consoles, rear-seat frames, and purpose-built speaker pods. The mount should not block visibility, interfere with passengers, or place the equipment where it is easily struck.

What is the easiest setup?

A rechargeable portable Bluetooth speaker is the simplest option for occasional use. A powered soundbar is a good middle ground for a permanent installation. A full stereo with separate speakers and amplifier provides the most flexibility but requires more wiring.

Bottom line

Golf carts can have radios and audio systems, but they are not universal factory equipment. Bluetooth soundbars and portable speakers are now common alternatives to traditional radios, especially when simple installation is the priority.
