EZGO ITS Sensor: Symptoms, Testing & Replacement

Many E-Z-GO TXT electric carts use an inductive throttle sensor, commonly called the ITS, to tell the controller how far the accelerator pedal is being pressed. E-Z-GO documentation for 48V TXT models identifies an inductive throttle sensor as part of the electrical system. Because generations and controllers vary, diagnosis should still be based on the exact model and year.

Symptoms that can point to the ITS

A failing or misadjusted throttle input can cause hesitation, erratic acceleration, a cart that will not move, or a narrow pedal range where the cart suddenly starts. These symptoms can also come from weak batteries, a bad solenoid, damaged wiring, a controller problem, or a pedal microswitch fault.

Inspect before testing

Check the pedal linkage, sensor mounting, connector and wiring for looseness, moisture or abrasion. Confirm the battery pack is charged and that the forward/reverse and run/tow circuits are operating normally. If the cart has multiple electrical problems, resolve the power-supply fault first.

Testing an ITS

The safest method is to use the service manual for the specific TXT/controller combination and measure the throttle signal at the specified terminals while the pedal is moved slowly. The reading should change smoothly through the expected range. Do not copy voltage values from a different controller family, and never short sensor terminals together to force the cart to move.

Replacement considerations

Match the sensor and pedal-box components to the cart’s production period and controller system. After installation, confirm that the pedal returns freely and that the cart does not creep with the pedal released. If the ITS signal is correct but the cart still hesitates, continue diagnosis through the controller, wiring and motor circuits. For model context, see our EZGO TXT models and years guide.

When to stop troubleshooting

If the throttle signal jumps unpredictably, the cart moves without a smooth pedal input, or you cannot confirm the correct test values for the controller family, stop and use the exact service manual or a qualified technician. Throttle faults affect unintended-movement protection, so guessing with jumpers is not appropriate.

This ITS sensor is a relevant replacement example for compatible EZGO TXT and Medalist electric carts. Verify model and year before ordering.
