Simple Golf Cart Maintenance Checklist for New Owners

Routine maintenance can help a golf cart feel safer and more predictable. You do not need to disassemble the cart every month. A short inspection schedule can catch many problems before they become expensive repairs.

Monthly checks

  • Check tire pressure and look for uneven wear.
  • Inspect battery terminals and cables for corrosion or looseness.
  • Test headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and horn if equipped.
  • Listen for new rattles, grinding, or clicking noises.
  • Check steering feel and brake response.

Battery maintenance

Battery care depends on the battery type. Flooded lead-acid batteries may require water checks, while sealed AGM and lithium batteries have different maintenance needs. Always follow the battery manufacturer’s instructions.

When to inspect the brakes

If the pedal travel changes, the cart pulls to one side, braking distance increases, or you hear scraping noises, inspect the braking system before regular use. Brake condition matters more on modified carts with higher speed or larger tires.

Keep a basic service record

A simple note with dates, tire pressure, battery checks, repairs, and installed parts can make future troubleshooting much easier.
