How Tall Is a Golf Cart With a 6-Inch Lift?

A 6-inch lift does not make every golf cart exactly 6 inches taller overall. The suspension lift raises the chassis, while larger tires add additional height based on the change in tire radius. Roof design, seat kits, suspension compression, and tire pressure also affect the final measurement.

Start with the cart’s stock height

Measure from level ground to the highest fixed point on the cart, usually the roof. Do not rely only on brochure dimensions if the cart already has aftermarket tires, a replacement roof, or suspension changes.

Add the suspension lift

A nominal 6-inch lift is intended to raise the chassis by about 6 inches, but actual installed height can vary slightly by kit design and vehicle load.

Add half the tire-diameter increase

Tire size changes total height by the increase in tire radius, not the full diameter. For example, moving from an 18-inch tire to a 23-inch tire increases diameter by 5 inches, so the axle and body rise roughly 2.5 inches from the tire change alone.

Example calculation

Change Approximate height added
6-inch suspension lift About 6 inches
18-inch to 23-inch tires About 2.5 inches
Total theoretical increase About 8.5 inches

The real result can differ slightly because of suspension geometry, tire construction, pressure, and vehicle weight.

Why total height matters

A lifted cart may no longer fit through a garage door, under a low carport, or inside an enclosed trailer. It can also have a higher center of gravity, which changes cornering and side-slope stability.

Use our golf cart lift-kit size guide and 23-inch tire fitment guide before planning the build.

Measure before and after

Measure the stock cart on level ground, complete the lift and tire installation, then measure again at the same roof point. This gives you the actual height instead of relying on nominal kit size.

Bottom line

A 6-inch lift often raises overall cart height by more than 6 inches once larger tires are added. Calculate tire-radius increase separately and verify the final roof height before using garages, trailers, or low-clearance areas.
