How to Measure Golf Cart Seats

To measure a golf cart seat, record the cushion width, front-to-back depth, thickness, seat-back width and height, plus the mounting-hole spacing and any hinge or latch locations. Measurements are useful, but they should supplement model and year fitment rather than replace it.

Identify the cart first

Before measuring, confirm the golf cart make, model, approximate year, and whether the seat is OEM or part of an aftermarket rear-seat kit. Two cushions with similar dimensions can still use different mounting points or contours.

Measure the bottom cushion width

Measure straight across the widest usable part of the cushion from left edge to right edge. Do not wrap the tape around the curved upholstery.

Measure front-to-back depth

Measure from the front edge of the cushion to the rear edge where it meets the seat back or body. Record the usable cushion depth and the overall base depth if you are replacing the entire assembly.

Measure cushion thickness

Measure the cushion at a representative point without compressing the foam. Thickness matters when comparing replacement cushions and seat covers because heavily worn foam can make an old seat measure thinner than it originally was.

Measure the seat back separately

Record the seat-back width and height. Note whether the corners are rounded, tapered, or deeply contoured because shape can matter as much as the overall dimensions.

Record mounting-hole spacing

If replacing the cushion or full seat assembly, measure center-to-center between mounting holes, studs, hinges, brackets, and latches. Photograph the underside before removing anything so you can compare hardware orientation later.

Rear-seat measurements need more details

For rear flip seats, also record frame width, footrest position, hinge spacing, roof-support clearance, and whether seat belts or grab bars attach to the same frame.

Seat covers need less structural measurement

A slip-on or universal seat cover mainly needs cushion width, depth, and sometimes backrest dimensions. Model-specific replacement upholstery usually depends more on the exact cart platform than on hand measurements.

Compare replacement golf cart seat covers before ordering.

Do not assume Precedent and DS seats interchange

Even within one brand, seat assemblies can differ. Our Club Car Precedent vs DS seat fitment guide shows why platform identification matters.

Bottom line

Measure the cushion, backrest, base, and mounting points, but always match those measurements with make, model, year, and seat-kit information. That combination gives a much more reliable fitment check than dimensions alone.
