What Battery Does an EZGO TXT 48V Take?

A 48V EZGO TXT does not have one universal replacement battery. A traditional 48V Freedom TXT from the mid-2010s used six 8V deep-cycle batteries in series, while other 48V TXT configurations and later lithium conversions can use different pack designs. Match the exact model year, battery tray, charger, and electrical system before buying.

Traditional 48V TXT configuration

E-Z-GO documentation for a 2014 Freedom TXT 48V specifies six 8V deep-cycle batteries connected in series for a 48V pack. Trojan T-875 batteries were one factory reference configuration in that manual.

Do not replace by voltage alone

Two 8V deep-cycle batteries can differ in case size, terminal layout, amp-hour capacity, and weight. A replacement needs to fit the battery tray and cable arrangement as well as the electrical requirement.

Use matched batteries

If the TXT uses a multi-battery lead-acid pack, replace with matched batteries of the same voltage, chemistry, capacity, and preferably the same age and model. Mixing old and new batteries can create pack imbalance.

Charger compatibility matters

The charger must match both the 48V system and the battery chemistry. A charger set up for flooded lead-acid batteries should not be assumed to support AGM or lithium without the correct charging profile.

What about lithium?

A lithium conversion can replace multiple lead-acid batteries with an integrated 48V-class pack, but the BMS, continuous and peak current capability, charger, mounting, cabling, and state-of-charge display all need to work with the TXT.

For general chemistry differences, see golf cart battery types.

Before ordering

  • Confirm the TXT model year
  • Verify total pack voltage
  • Record current battery count and voltage per battery
  • Measure tray space and terminal orientation
  • Check charger model and chemistry support
  • Inspect cables and hold-downs

Our EZGO TXT model-year guide can help identify the platform before replacement.

Bottom line

Many traditional 48V TXT carts use six 8V deep-cycle batteries, but do not assume that configuration without checking the exact cart. Match voltage, chemistry, physical fit, capacity, cabling, and charger compatibility.
