A golf cart with a factory-style roof is commonly around the upper-60-inch to low-70-inch range in overall height, but there is no universal number. Roof height changes with the cart model, suspension, tire diameter, roof style, and whether the cart has been lifted.
Why roof height varies
Two carts with similar passenger capacity can use different roof supports, tire sizes, suspension geometry, and roof profiles. A standard two-passenger roof also may sit differently from an extended four-passenger roof.
Measure the actual cart
For garage or trailer clearance, measure from the ground to the highest fixed point of the roof while the cart is parked on level ground and loaded as it normally would be.
Tires can change total height
If you move from an 18-inch tire to a 22-inch tire, the cart rises by roughly half the diameter difference, about 2 inches, before any suspension lift is considered.
Our golf cart tire-size guide explains the relationship between tire diameter and clearance.
Lift kits add more height
A suspension lift increases chassis height, while larger tires add additional ride height. The total roof-height change is therefore not always equal to the lift-kit label alone.
For lifted carts, see how tall a golf cart can be with a 6-inch lift.
Extended roofs
Long roofs may not always be much taller than short roofs, but their length and support structure can affect trailer fit, storage, and enclosure compatibility. Measure both height and total roof length when planning indoor storage.
Measure before ordering an enclosure
Enclosures are often designed around roof length and passenger layout. Do not use vehicle height alone to choose an enclosure.
Bottom line
Do not rely on one generic golf cart roof-height figure. Measure the actual cart at its highest roof point, especially after lift kits, larger tires, or roof replacements.
