Evolution D5 Maverick 2+2 vs Maverick 4

Evolution D5 Maverick 2+2 vs Maverick 4

The Evolution D5 Maverick 2+2 and Maverick 4 both carry four passengers, but they use very different seating layouts. The Maverick 2+2 places two passengers in front and two on a rear-facing seat. The Maverick 4 uses four forward-facing seats with a longer wheelbase and rear storage area. For families, neighborhood use and accessory fitment, that seating difference matters more than the shared “four passenger” label.

For the broader model overview, see our Evolution D5 Maverick guide.

The dimensions and current MSRP above are based on Evolution’s current D5 Plus materials. Dealer pricing, fees and option packages can vary.

The biggest difference: rear-facing vs all-forward seating

The Maverick 2+2 follows the familiar golf-cart 2+2 layout. The rear passengers sit facing backward, and the rear area is useful when you want a more conventional rear-seat configuration. Evolution describes the current 2+2 Plus with storage under the rear seats.

The Maverick 4 is one of Evolution’s all-forward D5 configurations. Both rear passengers face the direction of travel. That can feel more natural for neighborhood rides and families who do not want children or adults facing backward.

Why is the Maverick 2+2 longer?

Even though the Maverick 4 has a much longer wheelbase, the 2+2 is longer overall. The current D5 Plus specifications list the Maverick 2+2 at about 124.8 inches long and the Maverick 4 at about 118.1 inches. The rear-facing seat/footrest structure on the 2+2 extends behind the rear axle, while the all-forward Maverick 4 places its second row inside a longer chassis.

This matters for garages, trailers and storage covers. Do not assume the all-forward four-seater is longer just because it has a longer wheelbase.

Wheelbase and ride layout

The Maverick 2+2 uses a 63.8-inch wheelbase, while the Maverick 4 uses an 80.7-inch wheelbase. The longer Maverick 4 chassis creates space for two forward-facing rows and the rear storage/trunk layout.

A longer wheelbase can change turning space and breakover behavior. If your property has tight paths or you frequently load the cart into a compact trailer, compare the full dimensions rather than passenger capacity alone.

Cargo and golf-bag use

The Maverick 4’s all-forward design includes a rear portable trunk/storage area, and Evolution lists an optional golf bag holder for the all-forward D5 layout. That makes the Maverick 4 particularly useful when you want four forward-facing passengers plus rear cargo flexibility.

The 2+2 layout prioritizes the rear-facing seat. Accessories that attach around the rear grab bar, footrest or seat structure are therefore different from accessories designed around the Maverick 4’s rear trunk and all-forward body.

Accessories are not automatically interchangeable

Seat covers, storage covers, chair racks, rear cargo accessories and enclosures can be layout-specific. A product advertised for “D5 Maverick 4 passenger” may still be designed for only one of these two body configurations.

Our D5 Maverick seat-cover guide and D5 Maverick storage-cover guide explain why passenger layout and measured dimensions need to be verified.

Powertrain and equipment similarities

The current Plus versions share the core D5 architecture: 48V lithium power, a 6.3 kW motor, AC controller, onboard charger, double-wishbone front suspension, rear leaf springs, LED lighting, touchscreen infotainment and off-road-style 23×10-14 tires on 14-inch aluminum wheels.

Both are lifted Maverick models, so the choice is mainly about seating orientation, body length, wheelbase, cargo layout and price rather than one being the “performance” version of the other.

Price difference

Evolution currently shows starting MSRP of about $9,999 for the D5 Maverick 2+2 Plus and $10,999 for the D5 Maverick 4 Plus. Those are manufacturer starting prices, not guaranteed dealer sale prices. Freight, taxes, dealer fees and optional equipment can raise the final cost.

Which is better for families?

The Maverick 4 is the more straightforward choice if all four passengers prefer to face forward and you want rear cargo/storage flexibility. The 2+2 can be better if you prefer the traditional rear-seat layout, regularly use rear-seat accessories, or want the lower starting MSRP.

For young children, also compare seatbelt fit, step-in height, handholds and local rules rather than choosing solely by seat direction.

Which is easier to store?

The Maverick 4 is shorter overall but has a longer wheelbase. The Maverick 2+2 is about 6.7 inches longer overall and about one inch taller according to current specifications. Measure your garage depth, trailer deck and cover before deciding. Width is essentially the same at about 55.8 inches including the published mirror dimension.

Do they use the same lift and wheel setup?

Both current Maverick Plus models use the lifted/off-road D5 design with 14×7-inch aluminum wheels and 23×10-14 tires. That does not make every suspension or body accessory interchangeable because the chassis length and rear structure are different. Model-specific mounting instructions still matter.

Bottom line

Choose the D5 Maverick 2+2 for a traditional rear-facing four-passenger layout and lower current starting MSRP. Choose the D5 Maverick 4 when four forward-facing seats, the longer wheelbase and rear cargo/trunk layout are more important. Both share the same general D5 Maverick power and lifted styling, but their body configuration is different enough that covers, seat accessories and rear-mounted upgrades should be verified separately.
