Evolution D5 Ranger 4 vs Ranger 4+2

The biggest difference between the Evolution D5 Ranger 4 and Ranger 4+2 is seating layout and overall length. Ranger 4 is a four-passenger, all-forward-facing model. Ranger 4+2 adds a rear-facing bench for two more passengers, making it a six-passenger configuration with a much longer body.

Passenger layout

Ranger 4 carries four people in two forward-facing rows. Ranger 4+2 keeps those four forward-facing seats and adds a rear-facing bench behind them. That extra row changes parking length, turning clearance, cover size, storage, and rear-accessory fitment.

Overall size

Current Evolution specifications list Ranger 4 Plus at about 114.6 inches long, 55.8 inches wide, and 79.5 inches high. Ranger 4+2 Plus is much longer at about 150.4 inches while staying around the same width. That roughly three-foot increase matters in garages, trailers, parking spaces, and storage covers.

Speed can differ by current configuration

Evolution’s current Ranger 4 Plus page lists a maximum speed of 25 mph, while the current Ranger 4+2 Plus page lists 19 mph. Do not assume every D5 Ranger shares one programmed speed. Dealer configuration, model year, software, LSV package, and local compliance requirements can affect actual settings.

Powertrain similarities

Current D5 Ranger Plus models use a 48V lithium system, 6.3 kW motor, 400A AC controller, and onboard charger. That common architecture means the decision is less about raw motor power and more about seating, size, tire/load demands, and how the vehicle will be used.

Storage and rear-accessory differences

Ranger 4 has a compact rear section and portable trunk/storage arrangement. Ranger 4+2 gives up some of that compactness for the rear-facing passenger bench and under-seat/rear storage. Chair racks, golf-bag holders, covers, enclosures, rear grab bars, and cargo accessories should be checked against the exact seating layout.

For rear-accessory fitment, see our Evolution chair-rack fitment guide.

Which is easier to park and transport?

Ranger 4 is easier to fit in standard garages and shorter trailers because of its smaller overall length. Ranger 4+2 is more demanding. Before buying a trailer or cover, measure the actual cart with mirrors, roof, rear accessories, and any dealer-installed equipment.

Which is better for families or guests?

Choose Ranger 4 when four forward-facing seats are enough and compact dimensions matter. Choose Ranger 4+2 when six-passenger capacity is the priority and you are comfortable with rear-facing passengers, longer overall length, and extra rear overhang.

Ranger 4+2 is not the same as Ranger 6 forward-facing

The “4+2” name is important. It means four forward-facing seats plus two rear-facing seats. If you want six forward-facing seats, compare the dedicated six-seat forward-facing configuration instead of assuming Ranger 4+2 provides the same passenger experience.

Lifted vs non-lifted still matters

Ranger models are the non-lifted, street/turf-oriented side of the D5 family. If you want more ground clearance and off-road-style tires, the Maverick line is the closer comparison. Our Ranger vs Maverick guide explains that difference.

Bottom line

Ranger 4 is the more compact four-passenger choice. Ranger 4+2 trades length and parking convenience for two additional rear-facing seats. Confirm the exact model-year specifications before buying covers, enclosures, transport equipment, or rear accessories because current Plus and earlier D5 configurations can differ.

Passenger load changes the ownership decision

Adding two passengers is more than adding two seating positions. Ranger 4+2 owners should pay closer attention to rear tire condition, suspension wear, braking feel, and secure passenger handholds because the cart carries more people and more rearward load. If the vehicle is regularly full, inspect tire pressure and suspension components more frequently.

Cover and trailer fitment

A cover labeled “four passenger” may not fit Ranger 4+2 correctly because brands use passenger labels differently. Use actual length, width, and height. For trailer transport, confirm ramp angle, rear overhang, tie-down locations, and loaded vehicle weight rather than choosing a trailer from passenger count alone.

n

Practical rule: measure the actual cart before ordering transport equipment.

Choose by passenger layout, not just length

The Ranger 4 keeps all four passengers facing forward, which can make conversation, loading and rear visibility more predictable. The Ranger 4+2 adds a longer six-passenger layout and more rear body length. That extra capacity also changes storage space, cover sizing, parking length and trailer planning. Before buying accessories, confirm whether the product is made for the four-forward-seat body or the longer 4+2 chassis.
