Evolution D5 Models Explained: Ranger, Maverick and Plus Trims

The Evolution D5 family is easiest to understand in two layers: Ranger vs Maverick describes the basic styling and ride-height direction, while numbers such as 4, 2+2 and 6 describe passenger layout. “Plus” identifies newer feature-rich versions with updated equipment. The exact combination matters for dimensions, accessories, seating and used-cart comparisons.

Ranger is the lower street-oriented D5

The D5 Ranger uses the cleaner, lower-riding side of the platform. It is aimed more toward neighborhood and paved-surface use, with a lower overall height than an equivalent Maverick. That makes it easier to fit in some garages and trailers.

Maverick is the taller rugged D5

The D5 Maverick adds a more off-road-inspired stance, taller overall height, larger tire treatment and more rugged exterior details. It is still built on the D5 family, but the different ride height and body hardware can affect accessory fitment.

D5 4 means four forward-facing seats

Ranger 4 and Maverick 4 place four passengers facing forward. This produces a longer wheelbase and more car-like cabin layout than a traditional two-seat golf cart with an added rear-facing bench.

D5 2+2 uses a rear-facing second row

A 2+2 configuration combines two forward-facing front seats with two rear-facing seats. The seating direction changes rear body and footplate design, so covers, roofs, enclosures and rear accessories should be matched to the exact 2+2 model.

See Maverick 2+2 vs Maverick 4 for the practical layout differences.

D5 6 is the long six-passenger version

Six-passenger D5 models extend the body and wheelbase considerably. They are useful for resorts, communities and larger families, but they need more storage space, trailer length and turning room than four-seat versions.

What does Plus mean?

Plus models represent a newer equipment package rather than a completely unrelated platform. Depending on year and model, Plus versions can add updated infotainment, convenience features, powered equipment, trim changes and other technology. Verify the actual cart because dealer options and model-year updates can change the final specification.

Ranger 4 vs Ranger 4+2

The names can be confusing because a four-forward-seat model and a rear-facing 2+2 layout can both carry four people. The seating direction changes the body length, passenger access and rear hardware. Our Ranger 4 vs Ranger 4+2 comparison explains that distinction.

Maverick 4 vs Maverick 4 Plus

A standard Maverick 4 and Maverick 4 Plus share the four-forward-seat mission, but the Plus model uses the newer feature package. If you are buying used, compare battery health, electronics, charger, cameras, mirrors, touchscreen and other installed equipment rather than paying for the badge alone.

All key D5 models share the same basic electric direction

Published D5 specifications use a 48V lithium system and 6.3 kW motor across major Ranger and Maverick configurations. However, passenger count, wheelbase, dimensions, speed programming and equipment can change from one model to another.

How to choose the right D5 model

  • Choose Ranger if lower height and paved-road use are the priority.
  • Choose Maverick if you prefer the taller rugged stance.
  • Choose four-forward seating when every passenger facing forward matters.
  • Choose 2+2 when a rear-facing seat layout fits your use and storage needs.
  • Choose a six-passenger model when capacity is more important than compact size.
  • Choose Plus for newer convenience and technology features, after checking the exact equipment list.

Lighting, mirrors and a higher speed capability do not automatically make a D5 road legal. LSV or local street-use requirements can include certification, VIN, seat belts, specific lighting, registration, insurance and jurisdiction-specific rules.

Bottom line

Think of D5 naming as platform style plus seating layout plus trim. Ranger is lower and more street-oriented, Maverick is taller and more rugged, the number/layout tells you how passengers sit, and Plus identifies the newer feature package. Confirm the full model name before ordering accessories or comparing prices.
